Approximately fifty vehicles have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and postal boxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Police state they were alerted in the late hours on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a car in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been placed in the pattern of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Officers then located multiple other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under legislation banning the public display of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement report preliminary tests indicate the fluid was likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they commented.
City officials said they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for details.
A senior representative stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be addressed rapidly.
"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist terrorist attack half a decade ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a shooter aiming at people of foreign heritage in February 2020.
